BEIJING Kevin Hayes Womens Jersey , Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese people have stepped forward with more confidence in achieving their two centenary goals and building a socialist country.
President Xi Jinping has offered new guidance and arrangements on reaching the country's first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020 to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Xi also presented ideas for accomplishing the second centenary goal to build a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious by the middle of the 21st century in time for the centenary of the People's Republic of China.
Since ancient times, writers have recorded the Chinese people's desire to build a moderately prosperous society.
After the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the Party drew up a four-pronged comprehensive strategy -- building an all-round moderately prosperous society, deepening reform, advancing the rule of law and strict governance of the CPC.
The CPC has implemented the development concept, and adopted an overall approach for economic, political, cultural, social and ecological progress.
During the past five years, Xi has promised extensive supply-side structural reform, including major tasks such as cutting excess capacity, destocking, deleveraging, reducing costs and shoring up weak areas.
Departments under the State Council have canceled or delegated administrative approval power to lower level organs, meeting targets ahead of schedule in a move to cut red tape and streamline governance.
Achievements have also been made in judicial, fiscal and tax, state-owned enterprise, military and educational reforms.
In the CPC's fight against corruption, crushing momentum has been made in punishing both low-level "flies" and high-ranking "tigers," including Zhou Yongkang, Bo Xilai, Guo Boxiong, Xu Caihou, Sun Zhengcai and Ling Jihua.
The Chinese people are moving closer to their first goal and are looking toward the second centenary goal, while remembering Xi's remark that the people's desire for a better life will always be the country's goal.
The 19th CPC National Congress will convene in October. A total of 2,287 delegates have been elected from more than 89 million Party members to gather in Beijing to elect a new central committee.
On the path to meeting the two goals, the task remains difficult and risks and challenges continue to exist.
China must make comprehensive efforts to prevent and control major risks, alleviate poverty, curb pollution, and deepen supply-side structural reform to push forward sustained and healthy economic and social development.
Answering Xi's call, the Chinese people will roll up their sleeves and follow the leadership of the CPC Central Committee in working towards getting rid of poverty and advancing key reforms.
COLOMBO, May 31 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in Sri Lanka's devastating floods and landslides reached 202 by Wednesday morning while 96 people were still missing, the Disaster Management Center said.
Sixty-three people were injured and seeking treatment in state hospitals while over 600,000 people have been affected.
Severe rains and strong winds which lashed out across Sri Lanka since Friday have caused major floods and landslides in many areas of the island with the worst affected being the southern district.
As water levels are receding, tri forces along with rescue teams have now launched a massive clean up operation in order to restore normalcy in the affected areas.
At least 83,200 people are seeking shelter in safe locations and many are unable to return to their homes due to fully damaged or partially damaged houses.
According to the World Health Organization, at least 16 hospitals in flood hit Sri Lanka have been evacuated fully or partially as facilities have been directly affected by the floods or exposed to landslides, a UN statement released in Colombo said Wednesday.
"With the increasing number of displaced people and lack of space in safe locations, temporary shelter and ensuring access to health services is needed. Disease surveillance and vector control is also a priority with the risk of communicable diseases," the statement said.
It added that over the past few months, health partners have recorded a significant increase in dengue cases (53,200 cases with over 125 deaths) compared to annual data from 2016.
The Ministry of Health has deployed medical teams mainly in Kalutara, Ratnapura and Galle districts in southern Sri Lanka, the UN update noted.
Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday said the reconstruction of 640 fully destroyed houses and 5,329 partially destroyed houses will start soon.
Sirisena who also visited the worst affected district of Ratnapura on Sunday ordered authorities to provide maximum and immediate relief to the victims and ordered the treasury to release funds to compensate those affected.
International aid has also poured into the country with China, the United States, Britain, Pakistan, India, Australia, Norway and the European Union donating funds and sending relief supplies.
The Sri Lankan government has thanked the international community for its assistance at this hour of grief.
As Cyclone Mora has now moved away from the island country, the Meteorology Department said on Monday that the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds will reduce by Monday.
However it said fairly strong winds about 50 kmph could be expected over some parts of the districts.
