BAGHDAD, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iraq's military Sunday paraded in Baghdad Green Zone to celebrate the full liberation of Iraqi lands from the Islamic State (IS) group.

The parade was held in the morning at the Celebrations Square in the heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses the main government offices and foreign embassies, and was attended by the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, who is the Commander-in-Chief of Iraqi forces, Xinhua correspondent on the scene said.

Top Iraqi officers from the ministries of defense and interior also attended the parade, he said.

Iraqi warplanes and helicopters flew over the Celebrations Square as Iraqi tanks, armored vehicle, artillery, infantry and other forces marched in the square, he added.

On Saturday night, Abadi officially declared full liberation of Iraq from the extremist IS group after the security forces recaptured all the areas once seized by the extremist group.

"I announce to the Iraqi people and all the world that our forces have reached the last redoubts of Daesh (IS) and have raised the Iraqi flag over areas of western Anbar (province) which was the last occupied land by IS," Abadi said in a televised speech.

However, Abadi warned Iraqis to "remain alert and ready to confront any terrorist attempt that may target our people and our land," despite the announcement of victory over IS.

Earlier on Saturday, Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Rasheed Yarallah, commander of western Iraq operations, announced the liberation of all Iraqi lands from IS militants after seizing the whole border areas and desert in western Iraq.

"The liberation of all Iraqi lands from the IS has been completed and our heroic forces have tightened their grab on the Iraqi-Syrian border," Yarallah said.

The army forces and the paramilitary Hashd Shaabi brigades, backed by Iraqi helicopter gunships, managed to take control of the whole desert areas between the provinces of Nineveh and Anbar, he said.

Meanwhile, observers warned that Abadi's declaration does not mean the terrorist group has no ability to carry out attacks as it is still able to attack through its sleeper cells in the country.

On Nov. 17, the Iraqi forces ended the first phase of the offensive when they drove out IS militants from their last urban stronghold in Iraq and raised the Iraqi flag over the buildings of the city of Rawa and nearby border areas in north of the Euphrates River.

The IS militants seized large swathes of territory in Iraq in 2014, when government forces abandoned their weapons and fled, enabling IS militants to take control of parts of Iraq's northern and western regions.

GAZA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A senior Hamas official denied onFriday a recent report that said the movement aimed to leave apolitical vacuum in the Gaza Strip, the enclave that the Islamicmovement rules since 2007.

On Thursday, Turkish news agency Anadolu quoted a senior sourcein Hamas armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, saying that Hamasconsidered replacing its civilian rule in the Gaza Strip withmilitary rule in its stead.

The plan, according to the report, calls for creating a statusof political and security vacuum in the Gaza Strip that keeps alloptions and all doors open.

Salah al-Bardaweel, one of Hamas politburo members, said in apress statement in Gaza that the plans and ideas mentioned in thereport were fake and unrealistic, adding that Hamas "does not know,or has not been briefed or informed as a political leadership onsuch ideas or plans."

"Hamas will never leave any vacuum in Gaza. It could be ideascoming from people who felt daily life in Gaza is so hard andunbearable, however, Hamas does not agree on this plan," saidal-Bardaweel. Enditem

I recently had a sports injury in which I tore my anterior cruciate ligament. I have never felt that much pain in my life. Every movement which required use of my knee was excruciating. Apparently, the anterior cruciate is among the most important structures in the knee because it provides 86 of restraining tension to the joint. The ACL has mechanoreceptors that are sensitive to all knee movements and are important to trigger the muscle reflex actions. This would explain why I had such painful aching in my whole leg not just my knee. Apparently a torn ACL is actually referred to as an ACL deficiency, and affects timing of my knee muscle contraction. My body was trying to compensate for the ACL deficiency by using other muscles, namely my hamstrings. My hamstring reflex contraction has lengthened, and now my knee has limited anterior tibial displacement. In other words, a torn ACL affects the whole leg and can lead to some very serious long term damage.

I have been booked for surgery, but in the meantime I wanted to stave off fatigue, and stay somewhat fit. I was referred to a physiotherapist by my surgeon. He suggested I use a knee brace. It was explained to me that one of the most important factors of sports medicine and rehab management is the use of braces and supports to prevent injuries and further existing ones. It can be used in conjunction with a rehabilitation program that incorporates strength training, flexibility and activity modification. It can provide mechanical protection to the knee area and stability to the joint while I am putting pressure on it. Since the goal of my physiotherapy is to strengthen the muscles around my knee to make up for the absence of an intact ACL, I took his advice very seriously.
